Hot stone massage is a specialty, highly detoxifying type of massage using smooth heated stones. The stones actually become the tools that you use, and the heat helps to relax the muscles and assimilate the circulation, allowing the toxins to come up to the surface of the skin. The stones are often basalt, a black volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat well; the heat is both deeply relaxing and helps tight muscles release. At the same time, we incorporate Swedish massage techniques with lotions or oils to help give the stones a nice glide over the muscles and help release the muscle even further. There are many stones used varying in size and shape to work on all the different areas of the body. The stones are very hard and warm so it is important to check with the client making sure the temperature of the stones and the pressure are satisfactory.
Body scrubs are one of the simplest yet most effective ways to both exfoliate the top layer of dead skin as you massage muscles and moisturize everything. These are salt scrubs and sugar scrubs with essential oils. The scrub will be applied all over the body lightly so it will not scratch your skin, this helps exfoliate the dead skin and helps nourish and put moisture into the skin. The scrub will be wiped off with a damp towel and the body dried. To finish and help seal in the moisture the therapist will massage a thick lotion or cream into the entire body creating a clean moisturized glow to the newly exfoliated skin.
Relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle style of massage designed to improve circulation, range of movement, relief minor muscle pain, and promote overall relaxation. The massage consists of the therapist applying gentle to medium pressure of the hands to the body, gently manipulating the tissue to promote relaxation. It is not a deep tissue massage. It is not designed for working the deeper muscles of the body, but just a gentle kneading and rubbing of the outer layers of the body tissue. A relaxation massage can be modified and tailored to your specific requirements Relaxation massage usually covers a wide range of areas on the body including the back, legs, arms and neck. Sometimes there is the option of adding some aromatherapy treatment to your massage session so it can be personalized to be exactly how you like it.
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue aiming to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles not with the grain. The purpose is to loosen the fibers of a muscle while releasing deeply-held patterns of tension, removing toxins, while relaxing and soothing the muscle. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep-tissue massage helps relax muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. Because many toxins are released, it's important to drink plenty of water after a deep-tissue session to help eliminate these toxins from the body.
Pregnancy massage Women should always discuss their prenatal massage plan with their healthcare provider before any therapy begins. As the body changes so does the center of gravity, creating stress on muscles and ligaments. Studies show that prenatal massage can reduce back pain, joint pain, anxiety and stress. Some women have found a reduction of muscle tension, headaches, edema, and depression. Pregnancy massage can increase blood flow, circulation and is often attributed to an improved outcome of labor. Pregnancy massage can help promote better sleep, especially needed in the last trimester when mother’s bodies are really strained from baby’s growth and setting placement before birth.
